Movies of 2008

Twitter is a blog killer, this is a desperate semi-desperate attempt to salvage what's left. So, here I am; with my personal views on some of the 2008 hollywood movies worth mentioning.

As for Hollywood '08, I can remember only one thing : The oscars blew. Here is a list of little known movies which weren't good enough for the oscars.

Be kind rewind: This is yet another Jack Black goodness. The movie has its flaws, but still a must watch for any 80's and 90's movie buff.

Burn After Reading: After 'No Country for Old Men', the Coens were hailed as one of the best movie makers of their times. This is them saying "No no, we're just goof balls". This is definitely the goofiest movie you'll see this year.

Chaos Thoery: Yeah I know, its just another hollywood crap. But it is just fresh enough to make it to the list. It's a journey of a guy from Mr.Timetable to Mr.Chaos to Mr.Just another guy in just another happy ending in just another typical hollywood movie.. whatever

Choke: Crazy movie about a sex-addict seeking redemption; in other words, its a Sam Rockwell movie.

City of Men: What's a good science fiction made of.. special effects? space travel? robots? futuristic sets?
Wrong.
You want the answer? Watch this movie.

Definitely, Maybe: It's just another romantic movie with some fresh ideas. Was I stoned when I made this list? Definitely, Maybe.

Ghost Town: Watch for Ricky Gervais's comic timing. This movie's got some of the wittiest one liners of 2008.

Gran Torino: One word - Clint Eastwood.

Happy go Lucky: Are you feeling down? Watch this movie.
Message for bollywood: This is what you mean by a feel good movie, stop making shit!

How to Lose Friends and Alienate People: Hilarious movie, Simon Pegg at his best, and it's got Megan Fox. I rest my case.

In Bruges: Beautifully made movie; slow at times but leaves you immensely satisfied in the end.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Didn't watch.
Yeah, I know, I'm a lucky bugger.

My Blueberry Nights: The first half an hour is pure 'Kar Wai' magic. From there, it's a bit of a slump but worth a watch none the less.

Pineapple Express: If you've ever used the phrase 'Owww shiiit duuude', you've gottt to watch this :)

Slumdog Millionare: Yeah, you wish.
Now that I've mentioned, the part with the young actors isn't half as bad.

Speed Racer: Cliche, cheesy, campy and awesome fun :D . Watch out for the races.. Epic! "Go speed racer....."

Step up 2 The Streets: Feel the beat, watch the moves, forget the rest.

The Day the Earth Stood Still: This is a must "don't watch", watch the classic instead.

The Forbidden Kingdom: It's Jackie Chan and Jet Li, Yo.

The Wackness: What is life? Yup, thats the answer. It's an honest movie which'll leave you with a smile. No happy endings here.

The Wrestler: It's Mickey Rourke on steroids. No, seriously, I mean steroids, literally.
It's about the journey of an aging wrestler, it's got the touch rarely seen

Vicky Cristina Barcelona: Scarlett Johansson + Penelope Cruz + Woody Allen's magic. I promise, you won't look away from the screen even for a second.
